The Orkney Auction Mart is a focal point for the County's farming industry. The story of the Mart as it exists and operates today is revealed through photographs supplemented by text. The Sections ‘Introduction’ down to ‘Conclusion’ cover the different aspects of the Project and links to photograph albums are given at the end of relevant sections and are also listed below.
The final item to be added to this site, which appears as the first item, is a critique of the Project as a Visual Sociology research project.
Earlier postings include notes on ‘Journalistic Image as Visual Sociology’, ‘Validity and Reliability in Visual Methods’ and the’Rule of Thirds’
If viewing the photographs as a slide show rather than individually, it is recommended that a time lapse setting of 8 seconds is used to allow time for text on the photographs to be read.
