Furniture Sale 12 March 2009 - Pre-sale Viewing

Although billed as a furniture sale, the furniture auction was not confined to furniture as will be revealed by the photographs. On the afternoon before the sale day the goods are available for a viewing in a side hall within the OAM building. This was the same hall as used for the half-price sale photographed in the Premises section album. The sheer quantity of individual items makes it unrealistic to attempt to sell every item individually and, instead, boxes of several small items are sold as job lots. A relation and friend who are avid car booters, and photographed at the furniture auction, indicated that it is often amongst boxfuls of junk that some real bargains and found for onward sale. Most items were second hand but two bird tables and a few other items appeared to be brand new. The only interesting items spotted were an old treadle Singer sewing machine and a pair of male and female style Orkney chairs. Yet it is to the non-livestock sales that the general public flock in great numbers.
