Furniture Sale 12 March 2009 - Auction

The furniture sale, including miscellaneous junk, attracts large numbers of the general public – far more than for the cattle or sheep sales. The barrier bars above bottom panel level had been removed from the perimeter of the ring and the ring itself was set up with tables on which boxes of goods or individual items could be displayed. Ring porters transported the items in and out of the ring. The Auctioneer was different again from the cattle and sheep sales but was again male while the assistant operating the computer was the same female as before. The Auctioneer was in control of the proceedings with the porters helping to spot bids from what was a full occupied public seating area with many standing up at the back. The bidders could be anywhere and were not necessarily close to the ring perimeter where they had been for the cattle and sheep sales. The gender discourse indicated a different balance of folk. This time there was a mixture but it was females who outnumbered males.
